Weapons Seizures Skyrocket

Insurgents may be having a tough time these days, considering the amount of weapons that have been seized from them in 2007. According to Navy Rear Admiral Mark Fox, U.S. forces “have seized more insurgents’ weapons caches in the first half of 2007 than they did in all of 2006.”

“We are seeing increasingly positive trends in the number of weapons and explosives being taken from the enemy,” according to Fox.

That is very good news for U.S. forces.

Beanie Babies in Iraq?

Beanies in BaghdadMore than one million beanie babies have been distributed to Iraqi children by “Beanies for Baghdad,” a civilian organization from Evansville, Indiana. It all started when Lt. Col. James Barker of the 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, gave a beanie baby named “Courage” to a 4 year old little girl named Sarah in 2003.

Barker emailed a photograph of the little girl to a website for beanie baby enthusiasts, who decided to publish it. “Within the first four or five days there were about 2,000 beanie babies on their way for me for distribution,” Barker said. This effort evolved into the “Beanies for Baghdad” program, which sends thousands of beanie babies a week to Iraq.

More details about the program are available here.
